Modeling Vascular Tumor Growth

We have enhanced a computational tumor model developed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). We have modified portions of the model in order to accommodate the inclusion of vasculature (a blood-vessel system). Other modifications were made which allow chemotherapy treatments which are not cell cycle specific to be simulated. We have worked to increase the efficiency of the model code, reducing its computational memory requirements are less severe and allowing simulations to run more efficiently. These improvements in accuracy and efficiency have allowed us to study the effects of chemotherapy treatments on tumor spheroid growth. We report the results of simulated experiments using two different dose levels, both within normal treatment levels for cyclophosphamide, which is a commonly-used non-cell cycle specific chemotherapy drug.
